North West Safety Initiative Seminar - 29th
October 2002
SSL's web-based accident and incident reporting
system - AIRSWEB - was demonstrated at an exhibition linked to
a seminar being held by the North West Safety Initiative at Runcorn
on 29th October 2002 for the three key groups within the
region's construction industry.
Up to 400 delegates from the Merseyside and
Cheshire Construction Safety Group, the North West Construction
Safety Group and the North West Construction, Design and Management
group, and representatives from the Health and Safety Executive
had an opportunity to see how the product could benefit a broad
spectrum of industry, commerce and essential public services.
The system, launched after a five-year research
and development programme, provides a unique template for recording
accidents and incidents in the workplace and, by identifying all
at-risk areas, the opportunity to implement preventative measures.
Several major North West blue-chip companies,
including Pilkington Glass and the fuel giants, Octel Corp., are
already using the system either on a permanent or trial basis.
It has also been adopted by Oldham Borough Council to help achieve
Government accident reduction health and safety targets.
Although the product has been available for
some time, this was the first opportunity we have had to demonstrate
it before an audience of health and safety specialists who recognised
its potential benefits for a wide range of users over the country
as a whole.
Safety Software Ltd was one of 18 exhibitors
whose products and services were included in the exhibition at
the Holiday Inn Hotel at Beechwood, Runcorn. The seminar and exhibition
is held every 18 months and is organised by the Health and Safety
department of Warrington Borough Council.
Whilst AIRSWEB could play a key role in reducing
accidents and incidents in any business or organisation with more
than 100 employees, it would achieve its maximum impact with larger
employers in key sectors such as transport, hospitals, retailing
and the public services such as the police and fire services.
